Iringol Kavu

The winding road to Perumbavoor gives no clue to the treasure it hides close by. Cloaked in mystery, Iringol Kavu entices visitors to soak in its greenery, the incessant twitter chatter of birds and a gentle coolness even in the peak of summer.

Located just 2 km away from Perumbavoor, spread over 50 acres, Iringol’s history travels back 2,700 years says the local people. But the rituals at the temple date back 1200 years, with it started the trickle of devotees.

The lore of the land says that at the time when Lord Krishnan walked on earth, on a rainy day, goddess Durga in the form of a baby girl, slid away from the hands of Kamsa, who was trying to kill her. The Goddess turned into lightning and Iringole is the exact place where the lightning struck earth. And the temple is built at the exact spot. Irinnol as it was once known, means “the residing place of the Goddess”.

Leaving aside beliefs, rituals and legends, Iringol transports you to another world where towering trees, gnarled roots and hanging vines whisper a different story. The lone pond beckons you to ponder more. A few minutes on its steps, you can feel the stillness of time.

While a walk down the winding well-trodden pathways takes you on a trail of discovery.  You remain absorbed in the lush beauty of Iringol, and you are sure to find a new meaning to life itself.
